Common Assessment Framework (CAF) training

CAF in Practice

This course is for all children’s service practitioners who will be using or managing those using the Common Assessment Framework (CAF)

NB: This training is also advised for any practitioner who has not done CAF training in the last two years.

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Identify practice situations where a CAF could be helpful to support better outcomes for children, young people and their families
  • Understand the role of CAF as a tool to support Early Intervention
  • Recognise some of the qualities of good assessment and share good practice
  • Explore and incorporate ways of engaging parents/young people and children in the CAF process
  • Understand the importance of review and be able to apply some support methods in the work place

Assessment skills for CAF

This course is designed for all children’s services practitioners who will be using or managing those using the Common Assessment Framework (CAF).  It will enable practitioners to develop the working knowledge and skills to deliver CAF in practice.

NB: A pre-requisite of this training is that you need to have attended the Common Assessment Framework in Practice prior to this course.

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Have an overview of the assessment process
  • Consider the issues of confidentiality and information sharing as they apply to CAF
  • Be aware of and apply some factors/techniques which can aid assessment
  • Utilise methods to support the engagement of parents/carers/children and young people in the assessment process
